Request for Applications: Refugee Mental Health Initiative

Sehat Initiative and Cypress Resilience Project - both programs at Public Health Institute - are pleased to announce the opening of a Request for Applications for the Refugee and Afghan Humanitarian Parole and SIV Mental Health Initiative.

In partnership with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Office of Refugee Health (ORH) the project seeks applications from agencies with experience and expertise serving Afghan and other refugee communities with a directed focus on supporting their mental health needs.

This program will build capacity in California to respond to the mental health needs of refugee and Afghan populations specifically in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Alameda, Sacramento, and Stanislaus counties. 

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include nonprofit private or public organizations, including local and/or regional community-based organizations, with demonstrated experience in providing culturally and linguistically proficient counseling and services with a trauma-informed approach to refugee populations in one of the following counties:   Alameda, Contra Costa, Los Angeles, Orange, Sacramento, San Diego, Santa Clara, Stanislaus

Applicants must be able to demonstrate all of the following:

  • Have an existing infrastructure to provide non-clinical emotional and mental health support counseling services, or clinical counseling where culturally and linguistically appropriate services are unavailable

  • Already provide non-clinical emotional and mental health counseling services or clinical counseling where culturally and linguistically appropriate services are unavailable in the identified counties,

  • Provide culturally and linguistically congruent services for refugee communities, specifically including Afghan refugees.

  • Applications must be submitted by email to refugeehealth@phi.org by 11:59 pm (PST), 11/13/22

  • It should be noted that grantees must be able to implement their program immediately upon the fully executed agreement.
